Five years ago, back in 2019, the process began for constructing a new fire hall to serve the city of Cold Spring. Not only is the current Fire Department very tight on space, but so is the Cold Spring Police Department who have been trying to get more space for their growing department since the early 2000s. The Cold Spring PD will be moving into the space currently occupied by the fire department, while the FD will move into their new building.
In 2021 Cold Spring hired Five Bugles Design to be the architects for a Public Safety building, which was to include a fire & police station, however in 2023, they switched gears due to cost, and decided to build a stand-alone fire station. The current plan is estimated to cost 8.5 million. At that time a team was formed to work on designing this new building. The team consisted of 2 City Council Members, Fire Chief & Asst. Chief, City Administrator, and representatives from Five Bugles Design and Donlar Construction.
The design was finished in the summer of 2024 and went out for bids in August 2024.
This process was not only long, but many many options were considered before settling on the current design and property, which was purchased from Cold Spring Granite. After years of hard work this project is finally taking off with Donlar Construction as the project manager. Construction is set to begin very shortly after the groundbreaking with a date of Monday October 21st 2024 being set as the official start date.
